In my early teens I started maintaining my own fishing and hunting knives on rudimentary sharpening equipment. While not giving the best of edges, it gave me an appreciation for the beauty of having a well maintained knife.

In my early twenties I upgraded to a full set of Japanese waterstones. While these offer fantastic sharpening ability, the margin for error is very small and even one pass at the wrong angle can cause damage that is time intensive to repair. Still, it was great practice for learning about blade angles and I managed to create some beautiful blade edges which was very handy when camping out in the field.

Approximately 20 years on from where my sharpening journey began, I upgraded my setup again and moved onto a Tormek T8 which is a huge leap in precision sharpening. It was after making this investment that I decided that I would offer my services on a professional basis.
